Examples for travel or running distances
A 10-mile trip is 10 × 1.609344 = 16.09344 km, or about 16.09 km. In the other direction, a 5 km run is 5 ÷ 1.609344 ≈ 3.10686 miles, or about 3.11 miles.
For a quick mental estimate, multiply miles by 1.6. Use the full factor for an accurate conversion and round only the final answer. A more detailed result does not make the original measurement more precise: “about 10 miles” remains an approximate distance after conversion.
International mile or nautical mile?
This calculator uses the international mile (mi), used for road distances. A nautical mile is a different unit equal to 1.852 km. For a distance in nautical miles, multiply by 1.852 rather than using this form.
The form converts length. To convert square miles (mi²) to square kilometers (km²), square the length factor; for cubic miles (mi³) to cubic kilometers (km³), cube it. Do not enter an area or volume in this distance calculator.

Can I use a decimal comma?
Yes. Numeric fields accept 12.5 or 12,5 and spaces for thousands, such as 1 234.50. Do not mix a point and comma in one number.
